Pickleball court construction update May 2024

AlbanyThe Storm Cellar, 25 Champlain St. in downtown Albany, has one indoor court on an indoor multi-use gym with a synthetic floor. Cost is $5 per person or $20 per hour.

Albany – UAlbany: The university painted pickleball lines on two tennis courts on the main campus.

Bethlehem: The town of Bethlehem has ripped up several tennis courts at Elm Avenue Park and has created an asphalt pad that will be home to 10 dedicated pickleball courts. Completion date unknown.

Clifton Park: A large pickleball venue with 10 courts is near completion in Clifton Park. Town Supervisor Phil Barrett posted photos of the court construction at Veterans Memorial Park and said the courts might be ready by the end of May 2024.

ColonieMohawk River Park: The new pickleball courts at the park, next to the Colonie town pool, are complete and will open any second. There are 8 new dedicated courts. The park has a guard shack at the entrance and non-residents must pay $10 per car to enter. Colonie residents can get in for free if they obtain a “fob” from the Colonie Parks & Recreation Office located at 71 Schermerhorn Road. They must show proof of residency. Colonie residents that don’t have a fob, must pay $2 per car to enter.

The courts can be reserved for $15 per hour for residents and $17 for nonresidents.

The Colonie Pickleball Club is renting the courts on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon and plans to use the Court Reserve platform to schedule club sessions at the park. Otherwise the courts are first come, first served.

Mohawk River Park

Colonie – Cook Park: Two tennis courts and a basketball court at Cook Park are being resurfaced and will have three dedicated pickleball courts. The Colonie Pickleball Club is renting the Cook Park courts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Colonie – West Albany Pocket Park: Colonie is resurfacing two pickleball courts at West Albany Pocket Park.

Colonie Center Mall: No further news on a pickleball franchise coming to the mall. Ace Pickleball used to have a map point indicating they were targeting Colonie mall for a venue, but it is no longer on their website.

East Greenbush: Nancy Kupiec, who owns Vesta Construction Services, is teaming up with two other women to build a pickleball club between True Hardware and the bike path. The plan is for four pickleball courts under a pavilion. There will also be a garage and event venue. The project sits on 2.5 acres next to the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail that is part of the Empire State Trail, a 750-mile bike path that runs from New York City to Buffalo.

Guilderland: The Town Supervisor’s annual State of the Town outlined plans to install several pickleball courts including Nott Road Park (4), Volunteer Firefirefighter’s Memorial Park (4) and some courts at the former Hiawatha Trails Golf Course now called Kaikout Kill Park.

Menands: Gary and Maura Miller are putting the finishing touches on six indoor courts at their new Picklers Pickleball Club at 90-100 Broadway in Menands. They hope to open by Memorial Day.

Sand Lake/Averill Park: Butler Park currently has one pickleball court painted on a basketball court. The town has broken ground (May 2024) on another space that is expected to become two dedicated pickleball courts.

Schodack: Town Supervisor Charles Peter told Pickleball518 that Schodack is very interested in creating pickleball courts in town. The supervisor said the town hopes to install one dedicated court with permanent nets at the Schodack Town Park, possibly by the end of this Summer 2024. The town also plans to discuss installing a new basketball court in a park and painting lines for pickleball that could be used with portable nets. The basketball/pickleball court is only in the discussion stage.

Scotia: The Jason Morris Judo Center expanded added a court so the facility now has two dedicated pickleball courts. It costs $7 per person to play for two hours. You can reach out about renting the space here: https://www.realjudo.net/pickleball/

Pittsfield, Mass:  Bousquet Sport in the Berkshires opened 4 new dedicated indoor pickleball courts and will have 6 courts total by the fall. Bousquet uses https://playtimescheduler.com/index.php for all drop-in play and clinics.
